How to make your documents stand out

Updated yesterday

Your documents are online, but no one finds them. Frustrating, because you put time into them. The problem? Google doesn’t know your summary exists. The solution is simpler than you think: better SEO.

Why can’t anyone find my document?

Students search for documents in different ways: via Google, but increasingly also via ChatGPT or other AI tools. In both cases, the same rule applies: if your title, description, and keywords don’t clearly explain what your document is about, you get skipped.

Google has to choose from thousands of summaries when someone types “marketing summary.” AI tools do the same when a student asks, “where can I find a good marketing summary?” If you’ve filled in that information smartly, you’ll be found. If not, everyone scrolls right past you.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, but it sounds more complicated than it is. It simply means using the words students actually search for. Do that well, and they’ll find you.

The easiest way: our SEO Generator

We built a tool that does the work for you. Upload your document, and the generator gives you exactly the title, description, and keywords that work.

How to use it:

  1. Upload your document on Stuvia

  2. Upload your document in the SEO Generator as well

  3. Copy the suggestions or rewrite them if needed

  4. Paste them under “Edit Document” in your Stuvia dashboard

That’s it. The generator analyzes your content and tells you what to fill in. You don’t have to think about it yourself.

What does good SEO look like?

The difference between a document that gets found and one that doesn’t is in the details. Check these examples:

Element

Hard to find

Okay

Easy to find

Title

Nursing study

Med Surg Nursing Notes

Medical-Surgical Nursing Study Guide 2024 incl. NCLEX questions

Description

Basic nursing notes with some summaries and practice questions.

Summaries and practice questions for med surg.

Complete exam guide with diagrams, summaries and NCLEX-style questions. Everything you need for your exam.

Keywords

nursing, study, notes

med surg, nursing review

med surg guide, NCLEX prep, clinical review, exam tips

Why

Too vague

Better, but still broad

Clear, specific and exactly what students search for

See the difference? The best version is specific. It clearly explains what’s included, which exam it’s for, and what extras you get. Those are the words students type when they’re searching.

Why this works

Good SEO makes your document appear more often in search results. That means more views, more clicks, and ultimately more sales. And the best part? You only have to do it once. Once your SEO is set up properly, it works for you 24/7. No extra effort, just more sales.
